Transport driver injured in crash that closes 401 westbound

By Nick Ogden

BELLEVILLE – Two tractor-trailers carrying bottled water and concrete blocks collided on Highway 401 near Napanee early Wednesday morning, blocking westbound traffic for several hours.

One of the drivers had to be extricated from the truck by rescue teams and was taken to Lennox & Addington County General Hospital with minor injuries. The other driver was not injured.

Acting Sgt. Don Tellier of the Napanee OPP detachment told QNet News he believes one of the trucks was parked on the shoulder of the highway when the second hit it from behind.

Cleanup of the highway was expected to take over two hours, Tellier said at about 9:45 a.m. Wednesday. At that time one truck was still partially blocking the two westbound lanes, causing traffic to move very slowly.
