Senior citizens in Belleville get SMART

  • January 11, 2016 at 2:46 pm

By Isaiah Mawhinney

BELLEVILLE – Seniors who have a New Year’s resolution to become fit and healthy have an option thanks to the Seniors Maintaining Active Roles Together (SMART) program being offered by the Victorian Order of Nurses.

The program is an initiative to help maintain the fitness and wellness in citizens 65 and older. It’s working to improve their balance, heart, strength and stability in order to keep them out of the hospital.

The participants will be put into specific groups that better fit their individual needs. This way they are able to work at an appropriate pace without needing to keep up with more advanced elders.

The program is also cost-friendly at $2 – $4 per class depending on site.

More to come…
