Flood watch issued for the Trent River from Hastings to Trenton

  • January 13, 2016 at 3:28 pm

By Selena Steele-Clough

BELLEVILLE – With the arrival of winter-like conditions, Lower Trent Conservation is warning residents living along the Trent River to be aware of potential flooding.

The primary concern are areas from Campbellford to Frankford where frazil ice is building up, causing water levels on the river to rise. Frazil ice occurs when there is a lack of ice cover and the water is exposed to cold temperatures and/or wind chills below -18.

Residents are asked to be cautious around the water due to strong currents and very cold temperatures.

There will be mild temperatures over the weekend but the long range forecast shows colder temperatures arriving for next week.

The flood watch will remain in effect until Wednesday, January 20.
