Possible changes to school year calendar

  • January 25, 2016 at 12:06 pm

By Taylor Broderick

BELLEVILLE – Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board is looking to make changes to the 2016-2017 school calendar.

The board released a draft calendar on Tuesday with ideas for those changes and is asking for feedback from parents and students.

Most of the significant dates on that calendar – personal-activity days and other breaks – have only shifted a day or two from previous years.

The biggest proposed change in the calendar comes with the school’s Christmas break. In 2015, Christmas break started Dec.21 and classes resumed Jan. 4, 2016.

On this new draft calendar, the board proposes Christmas break start on Dec. 26 and classes begin again on Jan. 9, 2017. Christmas this year is on a Sunday. That means students would be in class until Friday Dec. 23.

If any parent, student or member of the community has questions or concerns regarding the possible schedule for the 2016-2017 school year, they can email curriculum.services@hpedsb.on.ca or call 613-966-1170 by Feb. 2.
