BELLEVILLE – A flood warning will be in effect to several municipalities along the Trent River until Friday.
The warning is for residents living along the the Trent River, between the Trent-Severn Waterway Dams #7 at Glen Ross and Dam #6 at Frankford. Residents living in municipalities of Quinte West, Trent Hills, and Northumberland & Hasting Counties may also be affected.
A flood warning is issued to the public when flooding is beginning or occurring, or when an increase in more flooding is possible.
The warning has been caused by an ice blockage across the Trent River in the area of Danger Narrow. The blockage is specifically affecting residents living along the river downstream of Glen Ross, McGuire Lane, Cooke Armstrong Road, and Rosebush Road.
The Trent-Severn Waterway is currently working to moderate the high water levels. They are also continuing to check water levels, snow conditions and weather forecasts.
With warmer forecast for this week, ice covers on all lakes and rivers should be considered unsafe says Lower Trent Conservation. It is also warning people to exercise caution as a result of strong currents and extra cold water temperatures. Areas also around water control structures such as dams, bridges, and waterway systems should be avoided and the public is urged to be especially careful around these structures during this time.
Residents living in low, floodplain areas are also advised to double-check and test drinking water from wells during this period.
