OCAA record shattered by Loyalist Lancer

  • February 9, 2016 at 1:43 pm

By Isaiah Mawhinney and Tyler Renaud

BELLEVILLE – Loyalist’s own Sara Piana Yafu broke the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association record on Saturday with the most volleyball kills in a single season.

In volleyball, a kill is when an attacking ball can’t be returned by the opposing team.

The previous record was set by  former Cambrian Golden Shield athlete Shawna Metcalf. In 2012/13 season Metcalf scored 270, while Piana Yafu has scored 273 so far this season.

Three games remain in this volleyball season, which means that Piana Yafu still has time to improve her total. She is currently averaging 18 points per game.

Loyalist Lancers lost 3-2 against the Canadore Panthers on Saturday.

More to come.
