By Matthew Murray

BELLEVILLE – Ontario’s new environmental commissioner and a representative from the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters will be visiting Quinte Conservation before the end of February to discuss local concerns.

Dr. Dianne Saxe was appointed as environmental commissioner in December 2015. Saxe has a Ph.D.  in environmental law and has practised it for more than 40 years. She will be visiting the Parrott Trail at Potter’s Creek Conservation Area to speak with Terry Murphy, the general manager of Quinte Conservation. The health of Quinte Bay, local impacts of climate change, the importance of conservation authorities and other environmental issues are topics of discussion for the meeting at 11 a.m. on Wednesday Feb. 17.

Quinte Conservation will also host Emily Johnston of Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters at 7 p.m. on Feb. 25. Johnston will be speaking about invasive species and their impact on Canada’s environment. The federation’s new invasive species mapping program will also be on display at the conservation office during the event. Admission is free, however Quinte Conservation is accepting donations to their Adopt an Acre program.
