SIU investigates highrise death
BELLEVILLE – The province’s Special Investigation Unit is investigating the death of man following a fall from a highrise.
On Saturday just before 7 p.m, Belleville Police responded to a disturbance call at an apartment at 99 Sidney St.
Few details have been released as to what happened next, but the police watchdog says the intervention ended in the death of one man.
The province’s SIU oversees cases in which police involvement results in death or serious injury.
According to the SIU’s official website, Belleville Police encountered two men at the apartment building upon arrival.
At some point during the interaction, one man fell from the building’s 9th-floor window. He was taken to Belleville General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The website states that four SIU officers have been assigned to the case, with two forensic officials investigating as well.
With the SIU’s current involvement, Belleville Police is not a part of the investigation.
