Belleville man charged with attempted robbery

BELLEVILLE – A 35-year-old man is facing charges after he attempted to rob a downtown bank with a knife on Monday afternoon.

Police say the man walked into a bank on Front Street around 2:30 p.m., pulled out a knife, and demanded money from a teller.

The man left the location empty-handed.

Belleville Police arrested him a short time later at the intersection of Front Street and Bridge Street.

He was charged with breach of probation and attempted robbery.

He was held for a bail hearing on Tuesday.

No injuries were reported.
