Gun-wielding man charged

BELLEVILLE – A 21 year old man faces numerous charges after pointed a gun at two female motorists on Cannifton Road early Sunday morning.

Both women were able to successfully evade the man and call 911 without being injured.

A responding officer spotted the suspect and chased the man on foot through several backyards. Police say the suspect threw away the gun while fleeing authorities and was later tasered on Johnson Street after not obeying police. The handgun was later found by the Belleville Police Service Emergency Response Team and a K9 Team.

The 21-year-old Belleville man had a bail hearing Monday and is facing charges of: two counts of pointing a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and weapons dangerous to the public police.
