BELLEVILLE – The Quinte Economic Development Commission wants to see more food processing companies come to the area.

Already food processing companies are a big part of the local economy.

The subject came up at Tuesday’s Quinte Economic Development Commission board meeting.

Chris King, Chief Executive Officer of the commission talked about the food processing sector as a target sector for investment.

He said, ” We are trying to attract more food processing investment and we are trying to attract more companies”.

Many of the popular food processing companies in the Bay of Quinte are Nestle,Kellogg’s, Reid’s Dairy and Donini Chocolate.

King said, “all contribute to the success of the food processing sector”.

Food processing shows are an opportunity for the Bay of Quinte to promote companies like Reid’s Dairy.

He said, ” A lot of the times we will bring Reid’s Dairy with us as a good way to promote their company and their capabilities and drive more sales to that business”.

” Ice cream is a lot more attractive than an economic brochure”,he said.

Food processing shows also allow the Bay of Quinte to showcase their potential to attract more people and companies to the economic development front.

Reid’s Dairy has been operating in the Bay of Quinte for over 100 years.

King says it’s because “they have a real strong brand and fantastic products and it’s a product that most people like”.

“They are a family run business they are able to react and quickly work with us without a lot of red tape” , he said.
