BELLEVILLE – The United Way of Quinte has announced its fundraising goal for the rest of the year is $2.11 million.

The goal is $15,000 more than last year’s target, but the organization believes it can meet it, says executive director Judi Gilbert. “I think it’s attainable. We would not set a goal we did not think we could attain.”

The United Way of Quinte funds over 75 programs run by 40 community non-profit organizations which are used by approximately one in three people in the region, or about 50, 000 people in total, Gilbert said.

“The impact of these dollars in the community is great.”

Brenda Snider, the executive director of Volunteer Information Quinte, said she welcomes the announcement of the ambitious fundraising target. The United Way provides funding for two of the organization’s programs.

“The more money United Way brings in, the better the opportunity for agencies to receive the funding (they need),” Snider said.

Volunteer and Information Quinte is expanding its community and youth initiative program, which helps high school students find placements to complete their volunteer hours, Snider said. If the United Way is able to reach its target, it would help with that process, she added.

The United Way hopes to raise money though local corporate sponsors and events it will hold in the coming months, including its annual casino night in November.
