Brighton AppleFest this weekend

  • September 22, 2016 at 1:36 pm

By Tara Henley

BELLEVILLE – Thursday morning welcomed the arrival of fall, and with it comes the beginning of Brighton AppleFest.

Christine Waterhouse, the chair of AppleFest, said she expects the festival to be a big hit this year.

“We’re expecting about 10,000 people, and it’s supposed to be a beautiful weekend, so I expect we hit that number.”

Events for the weekend include helicopter rides, a parade, a street fair, car show, dances, an arts and crafts show, food and more. Waterhouse said crowd favourites usually also include the children’s village, which is “bigger and better than ever” this year with new equipment.

She also said many people are excited for the performance of local country band Cold Creek County. They will be performing at the Brighton minor hockey dance Saturday evening at King Edward Park. Weather permitting, the event will be held outside and tickets will be $25.00 each.

For 42 years, the city has been welcoming thousands of people to the event to celebrate the height of harvest season.

The event will be held from Sept. 22 to Sept. 25.

For more information about the festival call the city at 613-475-0670 or email applefest@brighton.ca.
