Live Chat: Dealing with distracted driving

By Olivia Timm

BELLEVILLE – It was a busy March Break for the OPP as officers laid more than 2,400 distracted driving related charges during their annual campaign.

According to police, 11 lives across Ontario have been lost to inattentive drivers so far this year. That is three times the number of deaths over the same period in 2016.

Conviction on a distracted-driving charge results in a fine of $490 and three demerit points.

The OPP are reminding drivers and passengers to talk about distracted driving and how to keep our roads safe. According to the OPP’s website, spending five seconds focusing on a device and not on the road as dangerous as falling asleep behind the wheel.

To learn more about distracted driving and share facts and opinions, tune in to a live chat discussion on QNet News Thursday, March 30, at 6:30 p.m.
