Loyalist College will soon be offering four new programs to students.

Two programs, internet applications and web development, will be starting this fall.

John McMahon, vice-president academic at Loyalist College, said these two programs are distinct in the province.

“The unique feature about those two programs is we’re the only college in Ontario offering them exclusively online,” he said.

Students will have the option of completing a three-semester program to receive a certificate or continue on to a five-semester program to receive a diploma.

Two other programs will be starting in the fall of 2012.

A sports marketing program will expose students to the retail side of the sports entertainment industry.

A graphic design program will be offered due to popular demand as well.

The new programs were announced at the Loyalist College Board of Governors meeting June 2.

Maureen Piercy, Loyalist College president, said the programs will be offered by the college in an effort to stay current and relevant in an evolving marketplace.

“It’s just so very exciting because this is a very important part of college life, program renewal,” she said. “We’re constantly looking for new programs on the horizon.”

Piercy also said Loyalist has the ability to offer cutting-edge online programs.

“We are very active in the online education community across Ontario,” she said. “We’ve been a leader in that area.”
