BELLEVILLE – The Loyalist Lancers‘ men’s basketball team won their first two home games this season on the weekend.

The team won both Friday and Saturday bringing their season to three wins with no losses.

Friday the Lancers played the Georgian Grizzlies, winning 107 to 71. The Lancers took the lead early finishing the first quarter 15 points ahead.

That was more than enough as Loyalist played tough defence for the rest of the game. They held the Grizzlies to nine points in the fourth quarter and had 19 steals in the game and forced Georgian to turnover the ball 30 times.

The Lancers maintained the lead the whole game with seven players scoring in the double digits by the end of the game.

Loyalist’s top scorer was Akim Ruot who got 18 points. Right behind him with 16 points was Lancers’ rookie Ebenezer Teklezgi.

The Lancers continued their win streak Saturday when they hosted the Centennial Colts winning the game 103 to 85.

The Lancers had a strong first half out-scoring the Colts 54 to 34. The Colts tried to come back in the second half scoring 51 points to the Lancers 49.

Loyalist’s top scorer Saturday was again Ruot, with 24 points, followed closely by Angelo Sarsonas with 23 points.

The Lancers will be taking on the Seneca Sting in Toronto Friday where they will try to extend their win streak to four.
