Local businesses targeted by fraud artists

By Jordan Merkley

BELLEVILLE – Local businesses are being targeted by fraud artists claiming to be from the local utilities.

Police say they are calling businesses and telling them their last payment was done incorrectly and to buy pre-paid Visa cards to cover the payment.

The fraud artists are saying that if you fail to purchase the cards, your utilities will be disconnected.

Police are warning everyone that this is a scam. Victims are asked to contact Belleville Police.
