As snow falls, three vehicles collide in Trenton

BELLEVILLE – Right on the heels of our first snowfall in a while, there has been a three-vehicle collision in Trenton.

“It just happened, so there’s an ongoing investigation,” David Ludington of the Quinte West OPP told QNet News a short time ago.

Ludington said there are firetrucks at the scene of the accident, at the intersection of Fourth and Dundas streets.

Although it was snowing at the time of the crash, Ludington said he did not know if the weather was a factor.

“I’m looking at the roads here and they’re clear, so I can’t even say it’s due to the weather,” he said. “I don’t know what happened yet.”

In an alert issued Thursday morning, Environment Canada said it was predicting five to 12 centimetres of snow in Quinte, Northumberland and central Hastings County overnight between Thursday and Friday.

“Motorists should expect to deal with poor winter driving conditions as untreated roads will become snow-covered and slippery,” the alert said.

Although the snowfall is expected to get heavy, as of 2 p.m. it hadn’t been too bad, said Roxanne Walsh of the Central Hastings OPP in Madoc.

“I’m looking out at Highway 7 right now,” she said. “The highway is clear, just light snow.

“But that could change.”

Environment Canada advises the public to monitor future forecasts for updates on the snow.
