Lancers final soccer game of the season

  • October 10, 2012 at 2:31 pm

By Taylor Renkema

The Lady Lancers will take to the soccer pitch tonight, with a spot in the playoffs just one win away.

The women won one game this season, against Cambrian, lost three, and tied three, which puts them in seventh place in the East Division.

Loyalist College’s Athletic Director Jim Buck said illness and injuries have had a major impact on the season.

“We’ve had a lot of sickness went through the team,” he said. “So, even though the kids were dressed they just weren’t effective. They were playing at about 50 per cent, if they even went on the field.”

The Lancer’s rookie goalkeeper Sarah Paton has a concussion, veteran midfielder Stephanie Davenport recently underwent appendicitis surgery, and fellow veteran Shelby Lough has missed the last few games with a back injury.

The game kicks off at 6 p.m. tonight. Buck said he is hoping to see a big crowd cheering the girls on.

“We’re trying to promote it and get some people out there, and make it special for the players and try and finish the season off on a good note.”
