Belleville pub gets noise OK despite complaints

  • August 11, 2011 at 10:51 am

By Renée Rodgers

A local pub will have two concerts in September, despite a few formal complaints from locals.

Belleville city council granted a request from The Beaver Dam on Dundas Street for an exception to a noise bylaw that would prevent the pub from hosting evening concerts September 3 and 4.

Council reviewed three letters of protest sent to city hall during the 27 days given to the public by council to object to the bylaw exception.

Councillor Pat Culhane, who spoke in favour of the noise bylaw exception, said in an interview concerts bring people and money to the area.

“If we are going to bring acts of that caliber (to Belleville), then there are going to be requests for exemptions – not on the level that the Empire Theatre asked for (during Rockfest 2011) – but certainly on a level that brings business to the city,” she said.
