Belleville celebrates downtown roadwork completion

  • October 18, 2018 at 10:38 am

By Graham Whittaker

BELLEVILLE – Belleville is hosting its Downtown Celebration for the reopening of Front Street after seven months of construction on Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m.

The event will be held on Front Street just south of Bridge Street, marking the end of the major redevelopment of the city’s core.

It will be a gathering of businesses and community members with live music and food to enjoy.

Construction started on March 27, 2018, beginning the final phase of three planned for the City Centre Revitalization and Redevelopment project.

The focus of the project was to upgrade the infrastructure around Front Street in the core of downtown.

Established in 2012, the plan follows-through with the 2006 Downtown Master Plan and received a budget of $34.5 million to complete work across all three phases.

The first was completed in 2015 and the second in 2016.

This is the longer of the three, being broken into two sub-phases over the span of two years.
