BELLVILLE – A  fatal accident closed Highway 401 near Napanee for more than 15 hours was cleared at 8:30 a.m., following a possible chemical spill.

The crash involving a transport truck heading eastbound took place just west of Palace Road around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday. Traffic was directed off the 401 to Deseronto Road.

There is one confirmed fatality, but no others were injured. Police have not identified the person killed.

With the road re-opened eastbound on Highway 401, police say drivers should still expect delays, as a clean-up crew from the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks remain on scene.
