BELLEVILLE – This Tuesday marks the first day of the giving season.

The annual global event called Giving Tuesday is held after Black Friday and Cyber Monday and is a chance for the community to come together and raise money for their favourite causes.

United Way Hastings and Prince Edward is asking for donations this Tuesday and that the community remember the most vulnerable people as the holiday season approaches.

Donations collected remain within the local community, supporting 70 programs and nearly 40 partner agencies.

Donation to the local United Way on Giving Tuesday will be matched by Cathy Rushton and Liz Knuude, who call themselves Women United, to a maximum of $5,000.

“There are many people who have some serious challenges in this community, and the United Way works to address these,” said Rushton in a news release.

The goal for the organization is to see 60 new donors during the 60th year of community campaigning by the local United Way.
