Funding on the way for Glanmore museum

The Glanmore Historical site in Belleville has received funding from the federal government to perform renovations the ceiling on the first floor of the building.

Built in 1882 for banker J.P.C. Phillips and his wife Harriet Dougall Phillips, the house is now home to a collection of antique furniture, painting and ceramics.  The main floor of the building where restorations will be performed highlights the local history of the Belleville area as well as a pre-Confederation homestead exhibit.

Rona Rustige, curator for the Glanmore Historical site, said the ceiling has not been fully renovated since the house was built.

“Other than spot repairs, nothing major has been done to the ceilings,” Rustige said in an interview.

The grant of $130,000 will ensure that the hand-painted ceiling is properly restored and that the site will continue to remain open as an educational and historical site.
