A man has been charged with arson in connection with a fire at a Bayside business today.

Police have charged Kerry Brewitt, 21, of Quinte West, with arson by negligence and production of a controlled substance.

The Quinte West Fire department responded to a structure fire on the corner of Aikins Road and Old Highway 2 around 6 a.m. this morning.

Firefighters acted quickly at the scene and were able to have the fire under control and doused, 20 minutes after it started. There were no injuries reported at the scene.

“It was a structure fire today at Runway Sports. There were extensive damages to the interior of the building,” explained Deputy Fire Chief Roger Fournier.

This has not been the only fire for Runway Sports recently, which had its first fire at their other location on Whites Road some time last year.

“ The first fire occurred over on Whites Road, Trenton, at their first store location sometime last year,” said Greg King, Quinte West’s fire prevention officer.

The cause of the first fire on Whites Road was undetermined.
