Beef recall in Ontario

  • October 10, 2013 at 1:58 pm

By Catherine Coleman

The Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr.  Arlene King, has issued a warning to the public to avoid certain beef products due to possible E. Coli contamination.

“I strongly warn the public not to consume the affected products. E Coli infection can cause serious illness – anyone who may have consumed the product and shows signs of infection, such as stomach cramps, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, nausea and/or vomiting should see their physician immediately,” said Dr. King.

The Ministry of Health and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency has begun recalling beef products from Belmont Meats. The public is advised to throw out Compliments brand Super 8 Beef Burgers.

As of yesterday, there have been seven confirmed cases of E. Coli and one suspected case.
