NDP MP weighs in on Meyers’s farm expropriation

  • January 28, 2014 at 10:37 am

By Tyson Leonard

BELLEVILLE – New Democratic Party MP Paul Dewar says Quinte West farmer Frank Meyers should get his farm back.

The land has been expropriated by the Department of National Defence, which plans to build a military training facility on it. Protesters supporting Meyers have been occupying the property for almost three weeks, trying to prevent the buildings on it from being demolished.

In a letter Monday to Minister of National Defence Ron Nicholson, Dewar says, “I ask the government, and you in particular as minster responsible, to reconsider the decision to take possession of Mr. Meyers’s land.”

QNet News will be updating the situation at the Meyers farm later today.
