BELLEVILLE – Kerry Ramsay, the co-ordinator of the public relations program at Loyalist College and owner of Chickadelic Salvage & Design in Stirling, was named this year’s Remarkable Woman of Quinte.

The Remarkable Woman of Quinte lunch took place last Friday. The award is given out annually by the Intelligencer and sponsored by Shoppers Drug Mart Quinte Mall.

It was Jo Anne Wilson, Ramsay’s  former colleague  at Loyalist College, who nominated Kerry for this award.

“It was a complete surprise when the Intelligencer called me to say I’d been nominated. And an even bigger surprise to actually win the award!” Ramsay said.

Jo Anne Wilson said she was thrilled when Ramsay’s name was called during the ceremony, but at the same time she knew that Kerry would win it.

“Everything (that) Kerry does, she does with a real sense of honesty, integrity and passion and joy, and she instills that in her students. And the business she runs in Stirling is the same – it’s innovative, it treats customers well. And she is also a great mother and a great wife too. She is a pretty well-rounded individual,” Wilson said.

Ramsay has been working at Loyalist College for the past 10 years.

In 2013, she set up her retail business venture in Stirling. Ramsay said that it is not difficult to combine two professions at the same time as she has two employees running the business on a day-to-day basis.

“It’s really a team effort,” she said.

Ramsay is married to a local public educator and has two children.

“Achieving this award would never have been possible without the support of my family, my dean, my co-workers, my employees and friends who have always cheered me on. I consider myself remarkably blessed to have received this award,” Ramsey added.
