Fixed Fur Life charity awarded money for helping animals

BELLEVILLE –Belleville’s Fixed Fur Life charitable animal rescue group was awarded $1,500 from Pet Plus Us Champion Awards as recognition for all the good they do in the community.

The founder of Fixed Fur Life, Darlene Quinsey, said that the money will go a long way in helping the organization.

The organization takes in abused, abandoned or neglected animals in the area and helps treat them until they are healthy and ready to go to a new home.

Fixed Fur Life formed in January 2004 and since then has spayed and neutered 1,900 cats and dogs and 62 rabbits.

Prior to adoption the organization spays/neuters all the animals or will wait until they are the right age and do it for free. The organization does not euthanize any of the animals.

The group says on its website that 100 per cent of all donations to FFL are used for veterinary expenses, spaying/neutering animals, vaccinations and medical emergencies. Fixed Fur Life also does not receive any government funding however, has had many generous donations from Belleville’s Walmart, Pet Value in Trenton, and many volunteers who have donated litter and food for the animals.

Debbie Laffrenier has been a dedicated volunteer for Fixed Fur Life for nine years and said she has personally helped to raise $1,700 for the organization. “The more help I realized Darlene needed, the more I decided to help.”

Debbie has adopted three of her cats from the rescue group. Two of Debbie’s cats have disabilities, Wiggles and Trooper both do not have four legs.

“Fixed Fur Life took care of them until I was able to adopt them,” she said.

Debbie said she has seen a lot of the work Fixed Fur Life has accomplished.

“I just think that they do wonderful things for the community by not putting down the animals and making sure they are all spayed and neutered. All kittens at Fixed Fur Life are bottle fed, making them very lovable kittens,” she said.

When adopting from Fixed Fur Life Debbie says that all three of her adoptions went very smoothly and without any problems and could not be happier with the cats she brought home.

Fixed Fur Life is always encouraging the community to come out to support them by volunteering their time or by making any type of donation.
