Annual Jingle Bell walk returns to Trenton
TRENTON – With their warm winter clothing and Christmas spirit, crowds gathered at the Trent Port Marina Wednesday night for the annual Jingle Bell Walk.
Children sang classic Christmas carols as the group made its way to Fraser Park. Casey Mint said that this was her first time doing the walk with her kids.
“It’s fantastic, it’s our first experience with the walk and seeing the lights…so it was nice to see the community come together and fix it for this year,” she said.
Children ran through the park enjoying the scenery of the lights and explained what their favourite part of the night was.
“It was really fun to see all the lights,” says Justin Rause.
As everyone enjoyed the Christmas lights, people also took the time to gather around the nativity scene and say a prayer.
They made their way back to the marina for some hot chocolate, cookies and entertainment.
“This year with the Trenton Christian School choir and the band, they really kicked it up a notch,” says Janie Harrison, the executive director of the Downtown Business Improvement Area, the group which helps sponsor the event.
This event is getting bigger and bigger each year, she added.
“When it first started, I was told there was 10 or 12 people walking and now look how many people we got. We had about 75 or 80 on the walk and at the marina, it was filled to capacity”, says Harrison.
Andy Forgie, a family entertainer that also performed for the community, said that this was his first time performing in the marina’s new facility.
He also says that he has been performing at a lot of Christmas events this holiday season.
“I have been very blessed to have people invite me to their various functions – like a company that is having a Christmas party – that would want to have someone come and entertain them,” Forgie said.
He added that events like this are so important for the community because people who don’t even know each other all come down and celebrate the season together.
The next Christmas-themed event in Trenton will be the Christmas Bazar featuring handmade gifts, baking, used toys, games for the kids and parents on Dec. 5.
