Durham Lords still undefeated

BELLEVILLE – On Tuesday night, Loyalist College‘s Lancers played aggressively against the undefeated Durham College‘s Lords, but ultimately the Lancers lost 88-39.

Both teams played well early on with the Lancers and Lords scoring several times within the first few minutes of the game.

For much of the first half of the game, the Lancers played hard against their opponents. At one point, centre Rebecca Bartlett pushed two Lords down, while trying to score, but to no avail.

Bartlett says, “The game was pretty pretty good, we were nervous at first. There was a girl on their team who used to play on Loyalist, so that’s always nerve-wracking.”

The Lords continued to play even more forcefully and near the end of the second quarter, one Lords player threw Lancers’ Kylea Galipeau-Wilson to the ground, bruising her ribs, but Galipeau-Wilson continued to play.

In the game’s second half, the Lords continued to pull away. At one point, Galipeau-Wilson and Olivia Thomson teamed up to score a three-pointer. However, no matter how hard the Lancers played, the Lords were always ahead in points. And at the end, the Durham Lords won. They remain undefeated and are now tied with St. Lawrence (Kingston) for first place in the Ontario College Athletic Association (OCAA).

After the end of the game, Bartlett says that losing the game was, “obviously, disappointing.”

“We had a few girls who just joined a few weeks ago and probably will get better as the semester goes on. But we had a good chat after the game and we definitely feel ready for Seneca on Friday.”

The next game for the Loyalist Lancers is on November 11 against the Seneca Sting as the Lancers look to improve their season’s 1-3 record.
