BELLEVILLE – A 12-year-old boy has been charged after a fire at a trailer just outside of the Prince Edward County hamlet of Consecon Tuesday evening.

The Prince Edward County OPP were called to investigate the fire on County Road 39 at about 7 p.m. Tuesday. The officers determined that there was criminal activity behind the fire, according to detachment spokesperson Const. Connor Durkin.

The 12-year-old boy was subsequently charged with breaking and entering, commit an indictable offence and arson.  An 11-year-old boy was also involved, according to police, but will not be charged as he has not reached the age of criminal responsibility.

The 12-year-old was scheduled to appear in court in Belleville Wednesday.
