New coach means bright future for Lancer’s basketball

  • September 20, 2011 at 2:57 pm

By Kyle Mumford

Look for a change to the Lancer’s family this upcoming season as the men’s basketball team has a new head coach, Richard Whitfield.

Whitfield has coached Guardsmen club ball as well as at LaSalle Secondary School team in Kingston.  Whitfield also worked as assistant coach at the Royal Military College for one year.

Athletic Director Jim Buck said Whitfield brings knowledge and technical skills to the position as head coach.

“[Whitfield] brings a lot of experience,” Buck said in an interview.

Buck said that Whitfield brings a new style of discipline to the team and a no-nonsense approach to his position.

“We’ve got a good group of kids,” Buck said.  Structure will be the factor that can lead to a winning season for the Lancers.
