Busy Halloween for Belleville police

BELLEVILLE – While children around Belleville were out trick-or-treating, Belleville police were treated to a higher amount of calls than usual.

Throughout the day, the police responded to a total of 72 calls, compared to their average of around 50 to 60 calls per day. Despite the high volume of calls, there was only one major arrest to report.

After a call from a north-end retail store at 7 p.m. regarding a shoplifter, an arrest was made on a 27-year-old Belleville man. He was charged with theft under $5,000.

The man was later released from custody on the promise that he will appear in court in December.
