BELLEVILLE – Cobourg Police charged a woman with domestic assault after responding to a call in the early hours of Monday morning.

Officers were called to the area of Division and King Streets in Cobourg at about 2:30 a.m. by a woman who said she had had a verbal fight with her spouse, according to a news release. But the officers determined that the woman had assaulted her spouse, and arrested her.

She was taken to the police station and put in a holding cell. She was later released on the promise of returning for a court date on March 20.

The woman’s name is being withheld by police to protect the identity of the alleged victim.
