BRIGHTON – A Quebec man is facing charges for fleeing police after allegedly scraping his car against the guard rail multiple times on eastbound Highway 401 near Brighton Saturday night.

Brighton police say they received multiple reports from the public about someone driving recklessly. Police say the vehicle was described in reports to be severely damaged.

As Brighton OPP caught up to the vehicle. The officer observed the vehicle continuously crashed against the guard rail and did not stop for the police. The officer turned on the emergency lights and sirens, but the driver went on scraping against the railing until he drove off of the highway into a ditch.

No injuries were reported. The officer suspected the man to be impaired after speaking with him.

The man is charged with impaired driving, fleeing from police, and three counts of failing to comply with his probation order.

The accused is scheduled to attend a court hearing in Cobourg on February 19, 2020.
