Belleville looking for Snow Angels this winter

  • November 26, 2020 at 8:56 am

By James Tubb

BELLEVILLE  – Belleville residents who require assistance moving snow can turn to angels for help this winter.

The City of Belleville is introducing the community initiative called Snow Angels. It’s a neighbourhood program that matches volunteers with people in the area who need help clearing snow from their driveways or walkways.

In a press release, the city says that clearing snow can be a barrier for many people: older adults, people with disabilities, someone with an injury, or even parents with young children in the house.

It may affect an individual’s ability to stay active in their community and to live at home safely and as independently as possible.

With the Snow Angels program, anyone who may need support with snow removal can register and be paired with a volunteer in the community.

To volunteer or to register for assistance, visit: www.snowangelscanada.ca

This program is not solely a City of Belleville program but has been adapted by cities across Canada.

It relies completely on the community and the registration of volunteers. Anyone with questions regarding the program or how to register may contact the City’s Accessibility Coordinator at 613-967-3200 ext. 3502.

To encourage people to get involved and to recognize the work of the “snow angels” in the community, volunteers will have the chance to win some city of Belleville winter clothing.

Volunteers can be nominated by the person they are helping and will be entered in a monthly draw to win city of Belleville branded toques and sweaters.

Nominations are accepted by filling out the Snow Angels nomination form on the city’s website, by phone at 613-967-3200 ext. 3502 or by email at accessibility@belleville.ca.
