QUINTE — Conservative incumbent Philip Lawrence scored an almost eight thousand vote victory over his Liberal opponent in the Northumberland-Peterborough South riding on Monday.
Lawrence is re-elected as the riding’s MP as he prepares to serve his second term.
Northumberland-Peterborough South had a total of 66,650 votes between candidates Alison Lester (Liberal), Kim McArthur-Jackson (NDP), Nathan Lang (PPC) and Christina Wilson (Green). 44.8% of total votes went to the Conservatives, 32.9% to the Liberals, 14.2% NDP, 5.6% PPC and 2.6% Green.
On social media, Lawrence expressed his gratitude for his team and family – wife Natasha and two children, calling them his “rock” during this election.

“I would like to express my heartfelt thank you to the amazing residents of Northumberland-Peterborough South for re-electing me as your Member of Parliament,” he said in the post.
According to Elections Canada the Northumberland-Peterborough South riding represents the Township of Alnwick Haldimand, Township of Asphodel-Norwood, Municipality of Brighton, Municipality of Clarington, Town of Cobourg, Township of Cramahe, Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan, Municipality of Port Hope, City of Quinte West and Municipality Trent Hills.

“I learned up close and personal how remarkable Northumberland-Peterborough South and its residents truly are. From Hiawatha to Hamilton Township, Brighton to Bewdley, Cobourg to Campbellford and everywhere in between, I met person after person who was kind a courteous, who cared deeply for their communities and all had their family’s, friend’s and neighbour’s best interests at heart.”
Lawrence went on to thank fellow candidates as well.
