Unidentified man is presumed dead in Bay of Quinte

  • March 5, 2012 at 4:29 pm

By Amanda Monahan

OPP Search and Rescue officers continued Monday to scan the waters of the Bay of Quinte for an unidentified man who police said jumped off the Norris Whitney Bridge.

Kim Guthrie of the Prince Edward OPP said the man jumped just after midnight Monday. Guthrie said an off-duty police officer spotted an abandoned car on the bridge with the driver nowhere in sight but heard a voice calling out from the water below.

After emergency crews, along with a search and rescue crew from CFB Trenton arrived, the voice could no longer be heard, said Guthrie.

She said the man is presumed dead and foul play is not suspected.
