Female volunteers build home for local family

BELLEVILLE – The future home of Melanie and Dan Coughlin and their three daughters in its final phases of construction by volunteers with Habitat for Humanity .

“The Coughlin family was previously renting, and will now be able to own a new home,” said Cheryl Whiteman, community relations co-ordinator for Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward-Hastings.

From March 23 to 27 is women’s week on the building project in Trenton. Female volunteers from the community will come together to help with the construction of the Coughlins’ home.

“There is still quite a bit to be done,” said Whiteman. “The house still needs siding, flooring, appliances and more.”

There is also a lot of landscaping to be done, according to Whiteman.

Although the home is getting close to its final stages, it is not expected to be finished by March 27. The work will continue after that.

Habitat for Humanity has partnered with QuintEssential Credit Union to make the build possible.

Since it was established in 1994, the local Habitat for Humanity has constructed 17 homes for people who otherwise would not be able to afford home ownership. The families must contribute to the project by either helping with construction or working at Habitat’s ReStore, which sells home-renovation supplies.
