Live: Chat about colleges’ sexual assault policy

  • March 23, 2015 at 7:07 pm

By Joseph Quigley

BELLEVILLE – Loyalist and other colleges across Ontario are about to put a new sexual assault policy into effect.

By the end of this month, all of the province’s 24 colleges will have consulted with students and finalized the policy. It will include resources and guidelines for sexual assault victims, witnesses and college staff. It will feature definitions around sexual assault and consent, as well as a section on dispelling misconceptions. While the policy will have universal aspects to it, each college will be able to customize it to their community.

You can find a draft version of the policy here.

Ontario colleges took steps to create a sexual assault policy after a special report from the Toronto Star revealed that none of the them had one in place.

QNetNews wants to know about your thoughts on the policy and answer any questions you have on it before it is finalized.

On Thursday, March 26 at 7:00 p.m., we’ll host a live discussion via ScribbleLive. We’ll have a representative from the college available to talk about the policy.
