Two pets died in house fire in Centre Hastings

BELLEVILLE – A dog and a cat died in a house fire in Centre Hastings Wednesday afternoon.

Both Centre Hastings and Belleville Fire were called to a house on Highway 62 just after 1 p.m.

The fire was confined to the basement, but there is heavy smoke damage to the home, Centre Hastings Fire Chief Bob Branscombe said.

No one was home at the time of the fire and the cause isn’t currently known, he added.

There is no damage estimate at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
