Arm knitting is all the rage in Belleville

  • November 26, 2015 at 11:51 am

By Isaiah Mawhinney

BELLEVILLE – A new and exciting way to make winter scarves is beginning to take Belleville by storm as dozens of teenagers have taken up the hobby of arm knitting.

A person uses their arms to knit instead of using normal knitting needles. The Belleville Public Library is holding a workshop on Friday. Teens 12 and up can learn how to do it from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the first floor.

Arm knitting has taken off with the younger generation because it’s quicker to learn and doesn’t come with the stereotypes associated with knitting, mainly that it’s for older people. Now it’s enjoyable for all ages as you use your entire upper body to create your work!

The library is enthusiastic about the whole idea saying it’s a new spin on traditional craft. Learn how to knit on your arm!
