  • January 18, 2016 at 3:51 pm

By Megan Pounder

BELLEVILLE – Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in Canada.

According to the World Health Organization, the suicide rate among Canadians is 15 per 100,000 people annually. That’s approximately 3,600 deaths per year.

There are ways to prevent suicide. The Stirling-Rawdon Police Service and the Stirling Public Library are hosting a Suicide Prevention Information Session on Wednesday, Jan. 20 from 6:30-9p.m. in the upper hall of the Stirling Festival Theatre in downtown Stirling.

This seminar will have guest speakers such as Somatic Experiencing Trauma Specialist Laurene Winkler of Cobourg, mental health counselor Tammy Orr and former National Hockey League player Shawn Antoski.

This seminar is free and anyone is welcome to attend.

QNet News will be at the seminar Wednesday night. More to come.
