Home invasion leads to bear spray attack

BELLEVILLE –  A 39-year-old man was attacked with bear spray during a home invasion early Sunday morning. A 32-year-old woman in the residence was not injured.

Police say the suspect displayed a knife during the incident.

After fleeing the residence, the suspect was found on North Front Street near Bell Blvd where he was taken into custody shortly after.

A 21-year-old Belleville man is being held for a bail hearing today and is charged with; robbery, unlawfully in a dwelling, assault with a weapon, two counts of weapons dangerous to the public peace, possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of a controlled substance.

The 39-year-old man was treated by EMS on the scene.
