Foot pursuit leads to recovery of stolen property

BELLEVILLE – Police have recovered a substantial number of stolen items following a foot chase Monday night.

The items include jewelry and electronics, and police are inviting local residents who have been victims of theft in the past month to come and have a look at them at the police station Wednesday.

The chase took place at about 8:30 p.m. Monday in the area of Cannifton Road and College Street East after police spotted two men in a stolen vehicle. Further investigation led to the arrests of four Belleville residents.

The stolen goods were found in both the vehicle and a residence, Insp. Chris Barry told QNet News Tuesday morning.

The four arrested – three men aged 20, 23 and 32, and a youth under age 18 – were to appear for a bail hearing Tuesday. They face charges for bail violations and numerous property-related offences.

Meanwhile, victims of recent thefts from vehicles and homes in Belleville and area are invited to come to the police station at 93 Dundas St. E. between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday for possible identification of their belongings. Alternatively, you can get information by emailing one of the two investigators, Const. Monique Waite (m.waite@police.belleville.on.ca) or Const. Aaron Bucci (a.bucci@police.belleville.on.ca).
