BELLEVILLE – A woman suffered life-threatening injuries in an assault in Prince Edward County over the weekend.

The Prince Edward County OPP responded to a report of a serious assault at about 3 p.m. Saturday. The officers went to a hospital where the woman was being treated. She was later airlifted to a Kingston hospital.

A 52-year-old Picton man was arrested a short time later and charged with aggravated assault and disobeying a court order.

The man’s name is not being released to protect the victim’s identity.

The man will remain in custody until he makes an appearance in Belleville court this week, OPP say.

The investigation is ongoing and involves the Prince Edward County OPP, the OPP’s East Region Forensic Identification services and the OPP’s Criminal Investigation Unit.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. If you wish to remain anonymous you can call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477. You may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
