Phone scam hits Quinte region

  • January 17, 2012 at 2:37 pm

By Harrison Perkins

Belleville Police are warning the community about a phone scam going around the Quinte area.

In this case, the caller will claim to be selling a system called a “Hydro Power Saver”, which they say, will reduce the cost of your hydro bill by 30 percent.

Sergeant Julie Forestell says people should be cautious when dealing with people over the phone.

“Anyone receiving that type of call recognize that it is a fraudulent call, report it and in turn the word will get out and eventually the fraudsters will stop their solicitation”, Forestell said.

Anyone who would like to report any fraudulent calls can call 613-966-0882 and speak to the intake officer or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-654-9426.
