Loyalist College hands out $80,000 in awards to students in need

Loyalist College recognized the academic efforts of 104 students, who received more than $ 80,000 in total its Spring Awards reception on March 5th.

Loyalist College President Maureen Piercy was on hand to help present the awards, including one named after her. The Honorary Colonel Maureen Piercy Bursary was awarded for the first time to David Hiscock, a second-year fitness and health promotions, and Matthew Moore, second year in the Motive Power Fundamentals program. The awards recognizes students who are entering or already in full-time programs whom are the immediate family of currently serving men and women located at CFB Trenton.

The President Recognition award, given to a student who was an outstanding employees while studying at Loyalist. Human Resource Management Student Stephanie Directo received the award, presented by retired Executive Director of Human Resource Services and Organizational Development Karen Cullen.

The awards were made possible by 24 individual award donors and 20 endowed funds. Loyalist College has given out more than $500,000 in awards.

“I would say 95% of the awards are based on financial need. While the other 5% are based on academic merit,” said Joanne Farrel, the award officer for Loyalist College.
